Area golf events draw former UND athletes, NHL players

T.J. Oshie is bringing the Stanley Cup to Warroad on July 24th.

That will kick off a festive week in the northwestern Minnesota town.

Four days after the Stanley Cup visits the Gardens and parades through downtown, a host of current and former hockey stars will be in town for the Warroad Celebrity Golf Tournament.

The event is sold out.

Former UND players and current NHLers Brock Boeser, Brock Nelson and Shane Gersich are all scheduled to play.

So are former UND players Dave Christian, Alan Hangsleben, Brad Berry, Gino Gasparini, Dean Blais, Matt Greene, David Hale and 1997 NCAA Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player Matt Henderson.

Christian, Hangsleben, Berry, Greene and Hale played in the NHL. Greene won two Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings and currently works with the organization.

Christian will be one of three 1980 Miracle on Ice members at the event. The others will be John Harrington and Buzz Schneider.

The event also is expected to draw Grand Forks native and Northern Michigan head coach Grant Potulny, former NHLer Henry Boucha, new Minnesota head coach Bob Motzko, Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore and hockey TV analyst and former NHL winger Tom Chorske.

Organizers are hoping to add additional NHL players to the list.
