The list of former UND hockey players headed to PyeongChang has started with Grand Forks natives Monique Lamoureux-Morando and Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson.

They were introduced as team members, along with Gigi Marvin of Warroad and the University of Minnesota, as U.S. Olympians on Monday at the NHL's Winter Classic as the Herald previously reported.

There were no former UND players on the American men's team—Moorhead's Will Borgen, a junior at St. Cloud State, is on the roster—but the Fighting Hawks may still be sending one current player to South Korea.

Norway is eyeing UND sophomore forward Ludvig Hoff as a possible Olympian. No final roster has been announced yet for the Norwegians, but a source says Hoff is a candidate to make the team.

If Hoff were to make the team, he'd likely miss three UND series—a home weekend against Colorado College and back-to-back road series at Omaha and Miami.

UND won't be the only National Collegiate Hockey Conference team losing players for three weeks to the Olympics.

St. Cloud State will be without Borgen and Denver's Troy Terry is on the American team. Pioneer forward Henrik Borgstrom also is expected to make Finland's Olympic team.

Other current college players on the American roster are Boston University forward Jordan Greenway and Harvard forward Ryan Donato.

U.S. women's team

One new item revealed Monday was that the U.S. is moving Lamoureux-Morando from defense to forward for the Olympics.

Lamoureux-Morando has played both positions extensively in her career, but has played defense almost exclusively since the 2014 Olympics. She was the top-scoring defenseman in the last three World Championships and has been one of two defensemen named to the all-tournament team in all three years.

Marvin, who was named to the team as a defenseman, also will play forward. She has been playing up front since November.

U.S. men's team

The American men's team is a hodge-podge roster featuring both current and former collegians.

Borgen, a Buffalo Sabres pick, and Terry, an Anaheim Ducks pick, are two current NCHC players on the roster. St. Cloud State alum Garrett Roe, a forward, also is on the team.

Other former college players include Brian Gionta (Boston College), Mark Arcobello (Yale), Chad Billins (Ferris State), Chris Bourque (Boston University), Bobby Butler (New Hampshire), Matt Gilroy (Boston University), Ryan Gunderson (Vermont), Chad Kolarik (Michigan), Broc Little (Yale), Brian O'Neill (Yale), Jim Slater (Michigan State), John McCarthy (Boston University), Noah Welch (Harvard) and Ryan Zapolski (Mercyhurst).

Other possibilities

Former UND players Chay Genoway, a defenseman, and Matt Frattin, a forward, are on Hockey Canada's radar as possibilities for Canada's Olympic team.

On the women's side, Michelle Karvinen (Finland), Susanna Tapani (Finland), Anna Kilponen (Finland), Emma Nuutinen (Finland), Vilma Tanskanen (Finland) and Johanna Fallman (Sweden) are candidates.

Former UND captain Halli Krzyzaniak was Canada's final cut.
