Defense leads UND women's basketball team to win over UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—UND wrapped up its Thanksgiving weekend trip to Texas with another win, this one coming thanks to the Fighting Hawks' defense.

UND held Texas-San Antonio scoreless for more than 10 minutes as the Hawks took a 60-47 win on Saturday in the final game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.

The Hawks improved to 3-2.

UND ended the first half on a 15-0 run, then opened the second half with four straight points to put the game away.

Lexi Klabo led UND with 17 points and nine rebounds while Fallyn Freije added 10 points and five boards. Melissa Dailey and Bailey Strand each finished with nine.

"We got back to back wins in back to back days on a long road trip against two very strong, athletic teams," said UND coach Travis Brewster. "This team has excellent effort and attitude. They've gotten better since the beginning of the season with so many new faces."

UND led 13-7 after the first quarter and 34-14 at the break.

UND shot 38 percent from the field but owned the boards, outrebounding UTSA 46-31. UND also had five blocked shots and eight steals, three from Jill Morton.

UTSA was led by Carlie Heinmen's 20 points. UTSA shot only 31 percent from the field

UND returns home for a game next Saturday against Northern Iowa.
