Riders' Steffen repeats on all-state team
Maggie Steffen has been a standout two-way contributor to the Grand Forks Red River High School volleyball team for three seasons. But was she a better offensive or defensive player?
Statistically it is dead even.
Steffen was named to the Class A all-state team for the second straight team. Also named to the all-state squad, as selected by the state coaches, is Devils Lake's Kyleigh Toso.
Steffen is a repeat all-state pick. This season the senior had team highs of 412 kills and 499 digs while also registering 35 service aces.
She finished her career with 1,193 kills. Steffen also had 1,191 digs in her career.
Toso, a junior, is a second-team pick after leading the Firebirds to their first state tournament appearance since 2009. She paced the Firebirds with 237 kills and 92 blocks and also had 36 service aces.
