UND downs Arkansas-Pine Bluff to go 2-1 in Hawaii tournament

HONOLULU—UND capped its season-opening trip to Hawaii with an 80-71 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night.

UND finished 2-1 in the Rainbow Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Fighting Hawks beat Troy 83-80 on Friday night before dropping an 81-78 decision to host Hawaii on Sunday night. The Hawks trailed the Rainbow Warriors by 22 points before pulling within one point in the closing minutes.

Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Cortez Seales led the way with 22 points while Geno Crandall ended with 20, making all 10 of his free-throw attempts. Crandall scored 41 against Troy and 21 against Hawaii for an average of 27.3 points per game in the tournament.

UND led 37-33 at the half and bumped that lead to 19 points before the Lions made a late run.

Dale Jones added 16 points for the Hawks while Conner Avants ended with nine.

UND shot 36 percent compared to 52 percent for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, led by Martaveous Mcknight's 30 points.

A big difference came at the free throw line where UND connected on 31 of 38 attempts. Arkansas-Pine Bluff was 12-for-16 from the line.

UND will next play at Nebraska on Sunday.
