The edge

Offense (SUU)

Statistically speaking, Southern Utah rates near the middle of the Big Sky Conference in scoring offense and total offense, while UND ranks in the back third of the league in those categories. SUU quarterback Patrick Tyler has led the resurgence of the Thunderbirds. He's fifth in the Big Sky in passing with 250.1 passing yards per game. SUU running back James Felila is averaging 84.1 yards per game rushing, which ranks No. 4 in the league. Felila only had 11 rushing yards against UND last year in Grand Forks, part of the team's 51 total rushing yards. UND quarterback Keaton Studsrud is looking healthier and has some history with SUU, who he beat 45-23 in 2016. The senior QB threw for a career-high 282 yards and four touchdowns against SUU last season. Another surprising stat from last year? UND fullback Kyle Norberg, who has been out nearly the entire 2017 season with an injury, led the Fighting Hawks in rushing against SUU last year with 73 yards.

Defense (SUU)

The Fighting Hawks are giving up about five more points per game than the Thunderbirds and about 50 more yards of total offense. UND's biggest slide this season from past years under head coach Bubba Schweigert has been in run defense, where the Hawks give up 182.3 yards per game, which ranks seventh in the Big Sky. UND's defensive backfield will be a question mark, especially in the first half when Chuck Flowers has to sit out due to a targeting penalty last Saturday against Portland State. SUU might not have the pro prospects it did in the past with defensive end James Cowser (Oakland Raiders) and safety Miles Killebrew (Detroit Lions), but the Thunderbirds still have plenty of talent. SUU's latest depth chart doesn't include linebacker Chinedu Ahanonu, who is one of just three in the Big Sky to average 10 or more tackles per game. SUU will instead be led by linebacker Mike Needham, who has 70 tackles on the year.

Special teams (UND)

UND hit a rough stretch on special teams midseason when kicker Reid Taubenehim was injured, but the Fighting Hawks have bounced back as of late. Taubenheim is now 15-for-19 on the year, including a current 10-for-11 stretch. UND backup punter Mitch Meindel has been a solid addition to UND's kickoff efforts. The Hawks also returned a punt for a touchdown last week when John Santiago broke roughly seven tackles en route to a score. Santiago, who also returns kicks, gives UND a shot to score on any special teams return.

The picks

Southern Utah 38, UND 24: The Fighting Hawks picked up their first road win of the year in Portland last weekend, but Cedar City is a different beast.

North Dakota State 24, South Dakota State 21: The Bison defense will be put to the test against a team that has scored 114 points on the road the past two weeks.

Michigan 28, Minnesota 7: Michigan's still better, even with a quarterback making his first start.

Packers 28, Lions 24: Both teams are fading fast but Green Bay is coming off a bye.

Southern Utah 33, UND 23: UND is playing better but SUU has the FCS playoffs on the line.

South Dakota State 21, North Dakota State 17: It's a must-see game in the MVFC. Bison running back depth may be an issue.

Michigan 34, Minnesota 17: Little Brown Jug stays in Ann Arbor. The Jug has established permanent residency in Ann Arbor, calling it home for 36 of the past 39 years.

Packers 27, Detroit 21: Somehow, the Packers will hang around. They always do.
