COLLEGE CLIPBOARD: Women's soccer: UND’s Kessler honored

After a two-goal game, UND freshman Veronica Kessler is the Big Sky Conference co-offensive player of the week.

The Balmoral, Man., native scored her first two collegiate goals in UND’s 4-0 home-opening win against South Dakota. She shares the weekly award with Northern Colorado’s Rebecca Lancia.

This is the first Big Sky Player of the Week honor for UND since Zoe Foster was named received the honor in 2013.

 North Dakota returns to Bronson Field on Friday, hosting Green Bay at 4 p.m.

Northland player receives honor

THIEF RIVER FALLS — Northland CTC running back Troy Benjamin is the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Western Division offensive player of the week.

Benjamin rushed for 40 yards on 13 carries and hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass in Northland’s 31-18 win over Vermilion last week.

Benjamin is a sophomore from Port Arthur, Texas.

It was Northland’s first game since the school suspended the program at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

Northland is at Mesabi Range on Saturday.

Women’s basketball: Minnesota-Crookston has announced the addition of Bryant Friskop as assistant coach. Friskop will join a 2015-16 UMC women’s basketball staff led by 2014-15 NSIC Coach of the Year Mike Roysland. Friskop comes to UMC from UND, where he served in various capacities with the women’s basketball program.
