The Herald Jason Stadstad Hockey Classic, a high school hockey charity event, features the defending state champion from North Dakota and two teams that advanced to the Minnesota state big-school tournament last season.
The event will be Dec. 18-20 in Grand Forks’ Ralph Engelstad and Purpur arenas.
Teams from North Dakota are Grand Forks schools Central and Red River and defending state champion Grafton-Park River. Teams from Minnesota are Roseau, Blaine and Bloomington Jefferson. Roseau and Blaine played in the state Class AA tournament last season.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students for three games per day.
Proceeds go to Relay for Life and Grand Forks youth hockey.
The tournament is named in honor of Jason Stadstad.
The former Grand Forks Central hockey player was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, but the teenager battled back with relentless optimism, providing a message of hope and courage that caught the community's attention.
Stadstad died in December 2006 after a battle with cancer that lasted more than three years.
The Herald also will have a silent auction in conjunction with the event. Look here for more tournament updates.
