Shadae Quient of Warren, Minn., caught and released this catfish May 21 while fishing the Red River near Oslo, Minn. She didn't weigh or measure the fish, but reliable sources estimate the cat weighed 15 to 18 pounds. Quient said the fish is the largest she's ever caught.

Ethan Loeks of Oakes, N.D., caught this 26-inch walleye recently on the James River on the North Dakota-South Dakota border. He caught the walleye, which he kept, on a jig. Click on the image to see the full photo.

Marlene Sauve of Red Lake Falls, Minn., released this 28-inch walleye while fishing Buffalo Bay on the Manitoba side of Lake of the Woods. It's the second time in recent weeks that Jerry Sauve has photographed a big walleye his wife has caught. Marlene released a 28½-inch walleye in July.

Isaac Telle of East Grand Forks, who just turned 13 (notice the birthday cupcakes at left), shows off some of blueberries he helped pick with his parents, Scott and Linda Telle, and cousin Zachary Rose of East Grand Forks during a recent excursion near Warroad, Minn. (We won't get any more specific than that!) There’s a tremendous blueberry crop in Minnesota’s North Woods this year.

Jack Yem, Grand Forks, caught this 43-inch northern pike July 26 on Devils Lake while fishing with a 5-foot featherweight rod and 4-pound test line. He was using a crawler baited on a No. 6 hook below a slip bobber. The fish was released. Click on the image to see the full photo.

Hudson Kilgore, 11, Grand Forks, caught this 29¼ -inch, 10-pound, 10-ounce walleye on Lake of the Woods while fishing with his dad, Kelly Kilgore, and fishing buddies Pat Novak and Peter Spicer. Rich Thorpe of Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska caught these ling cod during a recent charter boat excursion out of Valdez, Alaska, Thorpe, who spent several years at Grand Forks Air Force Base, estimated the ling cod weighed 40 to 45 pounds each. Click on the image to see the full photo.
