Minnesota-made SlatGrate: Lightweight cookware that fits in a backpack pocket

The Minnesota-made SlatGrate is a lightweight cookware support system that fits in a backpack pocket and can be assembled in seconds to support cookware over a stove or cook-fire.

It’s been a winter all of us are ready to leave in the rear-view mirror, so what better time than now to look at camping gear?

Admit it, the idea of sitting by a campfire — or even better, cooking over a campfire or camp stove — is sounding pretty darn good right about now.

With that in mind, the Minnesota-made SlatGrate is a series of lightweight cookware support systems that fit in a backpack pocket and can be assembled in seconds to securely support cookware over a stove or campfire.

The easy-to-assemble SlatGrate design uses just three parts: 6-inch legs, 12-inch slats and 18-inch rails — along with lightweight chains for handling over a campfire. The parts are notched for easy assembly, and their modular design allows each to be assembled in multiple configurations

The SlatGrate is available in three models, each tall enough to accommodate most single-burner butane, propane, alcohol or white gas stoves:

  •  The SlatGrate Mini model provides a 12-by-12-inch cooking surface that can support a single pot or pan and retails for $29.95
  •  The SlatGrate Griddle model is 12 inches by 18 inches, can be placed over two or more stoves or a larger wood fire, and can support multiple pots or a griddle; $39.95.
  •  The SlatGrate Deluxe model is also 12 inches by 18 inches and includes 16 slats that can be used to form a grill surface for cooking juicy steaks or burgers over direct heat; $49.95.
