There are never more than a handful of licenses available for the bighorn sheep hunting season in North Dakota, but after a year without a season because of a wave of bacterial pneumonia afflicted the animals in the state, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department has announced the 2016 season will go ahead, as long as no further issues are found in the animal. A collared squirrel sports a radio transmitter that sends out a chirp about 30 times a minute as long as the animal is active. If the squirrel remains motionless for 24 hours, the transmitter goes into “mortality mode,” and the frequency of the chirping doubles. MN DNR
