Herald editorial board

Tuesday, North Dakotans will vote in an election that could sway the power of national politics.

Incumbent Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer. With the balance of the U.S. Senate teetering, the North Dakota election could very well be one that decides which party has power for the immediate future.

The Senate has 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats (including two independents), and there are 35 seats up for election Tuesday. Of the seats being decided Tuesday, 26 are currently held by Democrats.

Here is a biographical refresher on both candidates, including a list of endorsements for each. The endorsement lists were provided Friday by the candidates after being requested by the Herald's editorial board.
