Bruce Daby of Portland, OR, formerly of St. Thomas, ND, died peacefully at his home in Portland on February 16, 2018. A celebration of life gathering for Bruce was held in Portland in March. Another celebration of his life is being planned in St. Thomas in the spring with a private burial at that time.
Bruce Meredith Daby, son of G. Deward and Phyllis (Botner) Daby, was born on May 24, 1953, in Grafton, ND. Bruce was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in St. Thomas. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1971 and then attended Mayville State University.
Bruce moved to Portland in 1978, where he was employed at Precision Castparts for the last 40 years. Bruce was a courageous cancer survivor of 30 years, but had been in declining health the last year of his life.
Bruce is survived by two brothers: Guy (Colleen) of Cavalier and Neil (Liz) of Bemidji, MN; two sisters: Joanne Thompson (Robert) of Morris, MN, and Cindy Oakland of Jamestown; sister-in-law: Elaine Opdahl of Apple Valley, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Opdahl; his sister, Norma Robinson; and brother-in-law, Jerry Oakland.
