Allen G. Johnson

Allen G. Johnson, age 88 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Allen Johnson was born July 5, 1929 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Fred and Lillian (Halverson) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Grafton, graduating from Grafton High School. He enlisted in the National Guard his senior year and was called to active duty to serve in the Korean War. Following his discharge from active duty, he returned home and attended college in Wahpeton, ND and continued serving in the National Guard for 20 years, retiring as a Captain. He was united in marriage to Mardell Fehr on May 28, 1955 in Wimbledon, ND. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Osnabrock until moving to Grafton in 1959. Allen worked for Kieley Electric, Borden's, and the Grafton State School, retiring in 1994. He continued to own and operate Johnson Refrigeration for several years.

He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, the Grafton American Legion and VFW, he was a former Boy Scout Leader, and he was part of the Grafton Parade Band that played in the Rose Bowl Parade and after retirement the Grafton Community Band. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and attending the kids sporting events.

Allen is survived by his wife, Mardell, Grafton, ND, children: Allen Greg (Marla) Johnson, West Fargo, ND, Roger (Kathy) Johnson, Fargo, ND, Joel (Rebecca) Johnson, Burnsville, MN, Joan (Pat) Reis, Bismarck, ND, Angie (Jerome) Carriere, Grafton, ND, Patricia (Tyler) Rae, Red Lodge, MT, Diane (Rian) Lee, Argusville, ND, Cyril Johnson, Grafton, ND, Christine (Allan) Fisher, Loretto, MN and Daniel Johnson (Jana Greene), Red Lodge, MT, 25 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen (Jim) Labaw and Judy Wolter, brother-in-law Brian (RoseAnn) Fehr, aunt Bessie Halverson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Fern (Raymond) Guensche, Ralph (Hazel) Johnson, Donald Johnson, mother and father-in-law Allan and Apollon Fehr, brother-in-law Allan Fehr Jr. and granddaughter Patricia Herbst.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:30 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
