Letter: As president, Clifford was the real deal
To the editor,
In a previous letter someone mentioned, or wondered, if former UND President Tom Clifford was an anomaly.
Believe me, he was no anomaly. He was the real deal.
He was not a self promoter, he was tough when he needed to be, gentle when required, and understood the culture of the University of North Dakota. Most everything flourished under Tom.
The esprit de corps at the university was never better, and it was a wonderful place to go to college. I would think that Tom Clifford was the prototype of what a university president should be. Too bad they broke the mold. He was a friend, a mentor and a gift to the state and community.
