Semitruck driver narrowly escapes after truck crashes through guardrail, falls into central Minn. lake

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. - A semitruck driver is lucky to be alive after the big rig he was driving crashed through a guardrail and into a nearby lake.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, on Highway 71 just north of Sauk Centre, Minn., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Sauk Centre is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Alexandria, Minn.

A semi hauling animal parts crashed through the highway guardrail and into Sauk Lake, according to police. The driver was able to escape his submerged tractor after he smashed a window and climbed out of the cab as the semi sank.

The driver then was transported by ambulance to Sauk Centre Hospital, police said.

The condition of the driver is not known, nor is the cause of the accident.
