Motorcycle passenger dies after collision with crop sprayer

A motorcycle passenger died on County Road 8 in Lake of the Woods County near the intersection of 54th Avenue Northwest Sunday afternoon.

According to Minnesota State Patrol, Russel Hawks, 46 of Roosevelt, Minn., was driving a 1998 Yamaha Road Star with a female passenger on County Road 8 when he attempted to pass a farm sprayer.

However, the farm sprayer began turning left into a field as Hawks attempted to pass.

Hawks then attempted to put the bike down, but it skidded on the roadway and struck a tire.

Karlyn Hawks, 36, of Roosevelt, the passenger on the motorcycle, died from her injuries.

Russel Hawks was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the farm sprayer, 54-year-old Milo Ravndalen of Roosevelt, was not injured.
