Graphic by Grand Forks Police Department

Officers were called to Riverside Park in Grand Forks Friday afternoon for a self-inflicted shooting near one of the park's picnic areas.

The Grand Forks Police Department was called to the park shortly after 1:30 p.m. for a report of a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Grand Forks Police Sgt. Travis Benson said the man, whose name has not been released, allegedly shot himself in the head and then called 911 himself. The man was still alive when police arrived and was transported to the hospital.

Benson said to his knowledge no one else was around the park when the shooting occurred.
