Grand Forks man accused of beating woman with belt
A Grand Forks man faces a felony domestic assault charge after police say he beat a woman with a belt and choked her Wednesday morning.
Christopher Antwan Watson, 23, has been charged with domestic aggravated assault, a Class C felony. He made his initial court appearance Thursday morning.
According to an affidavit, police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 1200 block of 55th Avenue South Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, a woman told officers she had been repeatedly beaten by Watson with two different belts and that she had been choked in the assault.
Officers said they observed injuries in multiple areas of the victim's body including bruises and red marks consistent to being struck with a belt.
Watson was arrested at the scene and officers collected two belts as evidence.
He does not have a criminal record in North Dakota, according to court records.
