Cass County deputy hurt in jail incident when man allegedly attempted to flee
FARGO – A Cass County jailer was treated for a dislocated shoulder after stopping a person who was trying to flee the jail after being placed under arrest.
Deputy Thomas Behm was hurt when an inmate, Garrett Wade Byrd, reported to the jail about 7:25 p.m. Friday for court-mandated 24/7 sobriety testing and Behm informed him he was being placed under arrest for an active city of Fargo warrant, said Cass County sheriff's Sgt. Tim Briggeman.
Byrd tried to flee the lobby, Briggeman said, and Behm intervened in an attempt to take him into custody.
Byrd continued resisting arrest and was taken into custody by assisting deputies, Briggeman said.
Behm was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and released for a dislocated shoulder.
Byrd was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest, as well as his city of Fargo warrant.
The case has been sent on to the Cass County State's Attorney's Office for review, Briggeman said.
