Grand Forks man arrested for burglary, assault of 1st Ave. home

Police arrested a 24-year-old Grand Forks man Sunday night after he attempted to burglarize a home and punched one of its occupants.
Preston Ray Davis broke into a house at about 10:40 p.m. on the 1300 block of First Avenue North in Grand Forks by removing a screen to enter the house, according to a Grand Forks Police Department incident report.
The report said Davis took several items from the residence, which were later recovered by police. As Davis fled the area, he was pursued by one of the occupants of the house. He abandoned the stolen items, but the occupant continued to pursue him. Davis then punched the occupant in the side of the head in an attempt to get away, according to police.
Davis was taken into custody at the 200 block of Walnut Street. T
he two occupants of the burglarized house identified him as the man they saw leaving their home via State ID photos.
Davis faces a felony burglary charge and a misdemeanor assault charge. His next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. on Nov. 16 in Grand Forks.
