EDC touts 1,700 new Grand Forks-area jobs

The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corp. announced Tuesday that its 48 clients have added nearly 1,700 jobs in the past 10 years.

The EDC cited Job Service North Dakota data that showed an increase of 1,699 employees, or 68.2 percent, from the beginning of 2004 to the end of 2013. EDC clients also increased average annualized wages from $31,044 to $51,324, a 65.3 percent increase.

“True to the EDC’s purpose and mission, job opportunities and job quality for residents are continuing to increase,” EDC President and CEO Klaus Thiessen said in a statement. “The growth of these companies is significant and reflective of growth others are experiencing as well.”

The EDC works with primary sector companies, or businesses that provide goods or services outside the Grand Forks region, “and, in doing so, brings new wealth into a community,” a news release said.
