The North Dakota Mill and Elevator was evacuated briefly during a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency responders were at the state-owned grain-processing plant for about an hour to assess damage caused when a contractor working in the area struck a natural gas line before 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release. No one was injured, but the building was evacuated by mill staff before firefighters arrived, officials said.

The Grand Forks Fire Department determined the leak did not reach dangerous levels for the company at 1800 Mill Road or nearby businesses and residents, according to the release. Xcel Energy was able to safely stop the flow of natural gas while firefighters investigated, the release said.
