MSU president semifinalist visits scheduled
The next president of Mayville State University is—very likely—coming to campus next week.
The MSU Presidential Search Committee released on Thursday its March 5-7 itinerary for semifinalist visits to campus. Last week, the committee released the names of the five men who are in the running to fill the university's top office.
Those last few candidates are Bernell Hirning, interim associate vice president and associate regional dean at National University in Fresno, Calif.; Tim O'Keefe, dean of the College of Business and Economics at Longwood University, in Farmville, Va.; and internal candidate Keith Stenehjem, MSU vice president for academic affairs.
The list also includes Brian Van Horn, associate provost at Murray State College in Murray, Ky., and Tom Corti, vice president for student affairs at Farmingdale State College in New York.
These candidates are the product of a search that began last fall to replace longtime MSU President Gary Hagen, who is planning to retire this summer.
The presidential search committee intends to select on March 8 a set of three semi-finalists to submit for the last round of interviews with the State Board of Higher Education.
Members of the board, which is the governing body of the North Dakota University System, will make the final pick at a March 28 meeting to be held on the Mayville campus.
The semifinalist interviews will also be held on campus, in the Heritage Room of the Mayville Campus Center at 330 Third St., N.E. The schedule is as follows:
• Monday, March 5: Bernell Hirning, 7:45 a.m.; Timothy O'Keefe, 9 a.m.
• Tuesday, March 6: Keith Stenehjem, 9 a.m.
• Wednesday, March 7: Brian Van Horn, 7:45 a.m.; Tom Corti, 9 a.m.
