Enbridge Line 3 protesters block entrances to Wells Fargo in downtown Duluth
Protesters blocked entrances to Wells Fargo in downtown Duluth on Friday, Jan. 12, including the security gate, preventing the bank from opening.
Members of the Duluth Police Department, including Chief Mike Tusken, are negotiating with three protesters locked onto a door and the gate in an effort to end the protest.
Several other protesters, calling themselves water protectors, filled the hallway off Superior Street at the Wells Fargo building, demanding the bank divest its financial interests in fossil fuels.
Protesters and bank employees on the other side of the gate engaged in some tense verbal encounters. A few people did banking with employees through the gate.
Shortly after noon, firefighters were called in to cut the bike lock one man used to lock his neck to the security gate.
Three arrests have been made.
