Two arrested after St. Hilaire assault
ST. HILAIRE, Minn.-- Two Pennington County men were arrested after a Monday morning assault in St. Hilaire.
Pennington County Sheriff Ray Kuznia said deputies were dispatched to a reported assault in the Northside Trailer Park on Minnesota Highway 32 at 9:23 a.m. Monday.
The caller told authorities a group of people were attacking two individuals, one of whom was bleeding.
Kuznia said deputies found one victim bleeding from injuries sustained in an assault. That person was transported to the hospital in Thief River Falls and later was released.
Thief River Falls Police, the Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force and Minnesota State Patrol officers all assisted in the investigation.
Investigators learned about a car potentially associated with the assault and located the vehicle at a residence just west of St. Hilaire city limits on Pennington County Road 3, Kuznia said. A warrant was executed at the residence, which resulted in the arrests of two men: Guadalupe Francisco Peralta, 27, Thief River Falls, and James Richard Shaugaby, 26, St. Hilaire.
Kuznia said he wanted to wait to see what the Pennington County Attorney's Office decided to do with the case rather than commenting on the charges.
"There's a number of different statutes that could be charged out," Kuznia said.
The sheriff's office is continuing to take statements and investigate the incident, he said.
Charges against the suspects had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Pennington County Court Administrator's office.
