Calling all Grand Forks Air Force vets: Did you serve here during the Cold War?

A quarter-century ago this August, the world was rocked by an attempted coup in the Soviet Union—a watershed moment that signaled the impending end for the USSR.

And as the 25th anniversary of the end of the Cold War draws near, the Herald is looking for those who remember fighting on its front lines at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Are you a former member of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Grand Forks during the Cold War? Do you know someone who is? If so, we want to hear about what daily life was like. What was your mission? What was it like to be on the base during when the U.S. was on the brink?

We're looking for personnel who served anytime prior to the end of 1991, and we'll continue interviews throughout the rest of the month. You can get in touch with us by calling (701) 780-1102, or sending an e-mail to seaster@gfherald.com with the subject line "Grand Forks Cold War."
