Suspect in East Grand Forks manhunt charged

An East Grand Forks man arrested by police after an hour-long man hunt Wednesday appeared in state district court Friday.

Daniel Martinez-Briones, 27, is charged with assault in the second degree, domestic assault by strangulation and making terroristic threats, police said.

He got into a fight with his girlfriend of three weeks after she was making too much noise while cooking breakfast for her daughter, according to police. The argument escalated and he allegedly started choking the girlfriend and pointed a gun at her, threatening to kill her and her daughter if she called police.

He then fled the home in a trailer court in the city’s northeast, wearing only socks, sweatpants and a T-shirt in subzero temperatures.

Police and Border Patrol agents searched for him and found him in a nearby shed. The gun was found in the home by police.

Martinez-Briones is being held without bond. He’ll appear again in court on Monday.
