APP SNAP: A fun, easy alternative to Photoshop

Three out of five stars

For anyone looking for a much cheaper, easier alternative to Photoshop, “Cut Me In” may be what you’ve been looking for.

“Cut Me In” is a simple app which allows users to cut out people or objects and place them in various backgrounds ranging from the Statue of Liberty to a pond of ducks.

The app begins by having you complete a quick tutorial. From there, you’re prompted to take a picture and begin cropping.

The cropping tools are easy to use, even on an iPhone. A magnified box appears where you’re cutting around the image, so you’re able to see exactly where you’re drawing your edges. If you don’t get it right the first time, the eraser tool is a nice feature that allows you to even up the messy or jagged edges.

From there, you’re able to drop your cropped image into app-provided backgrounds, which include world landmarks, nature scenes and other events. In a matter of minutes, the user can transpose their image into dozens of different backgrounds.

The app is fun and is a quick, albeit lesser, alternative to the actual Photoshop. However, it is a fun and quick alternative for people who want to send silly photos to their friends. There’s a substantial list of backgrounds that you can be dropped into, which provides users a lot of flexibility and choices.

However, the app is constantly trying to get you to upgrade to their pro version and pop up ads are annoying and make it tough to work around.

In the end, “Cut Me In” is enjoyable to do on a phone, but if you’re looking for a high-scale cutout, it’s still a good idea to use the tried and true Photoshop.

“Cut Me In” has a lot of value for people looking to goof around with friends or just have some fun. For me, it doesn’t do much more than that.
