STREET STYLE: Barb Hugelen: Business with a bit of fun

Barb Hugelen, of Fargo, creates a fun business look with an animal print scarf and skirt, a brown sweater and tights for an afternoon business meeting at the mall. Photo by Jasmine Maki, Accent staff.

Although she doesn’t have to follow a dress-code, she said she tends to wear business clothes and add something fun, like the animal print on her skirt and scarf.

  • How would you describe your style for work?

“I try to lean toward business casual with a hint of trend.”

  • Where do you typically shop for clothes and accessories?

“It varies. I like unique boutiques. I like local boutiques that have something different, something unique, something that people will say, ‘Hey that’s a neat necklace,’ or ‘That’s a different scarf.’ I don’t know if there’s one specific. Kittson and Francesca’s. And Herberger’s.”

  • How do you typically accessorize?

“I usually always have accessories. I usually always have jewelry, necklaces or a scarf. I never leave without earrings. And shoes. I love shoes. My husband says he doesn’t know what I’d ever do with that amount of shoes. He doesn’t understand it.”

  • What’s your signature piece or color?

“I wear a lot of black and browns.”

  • What piece are you currently craving?

“I always crave a really unique purse. That’s the thing you want, that staple piece. That’s probably the first thing that people notice. And a coat. I like a very unique coat and a bag. That’s probably what I crave the most if I go out and look.”
