Ex-West Fargo police officer charged with crime gets no jail time 
Allen Schmidt was accused of hitting Sheila Windt and grabbing her arm last December. He resigned from the police force in January. Windt initially also was charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly ripping a lip ring from Schmidt's mouth and biting his chest, but prosecutors later dismissed the count.

Viewers of tonight’s episode of “Dirty Jobs” will learn that there might be dirtier jobs out there, but few workplaces can top Great Plains Towers in West Fargo when it comes to gut-check time. A West Fargo police officer accused of hitting his girlfriend has resigned. The police department says Allen Schmidt stepped down today. He had been on paid administrative leave since his mid-December arrest. Police Chief Arland Rasmussen in a statement called the resignation unfortunate.
