Citing "findings of mismanagement and accounting, reporting and work performance deficiencies," the Minnesota Commerce Department has terminated contracts with Tri-Valley Opportunity Council to help low-income northwest Minnesotans with weatherization assistance. Tri-County's executive director says the Crookston-based agency "screwed up" but also "had not been given a fair shake in justifying what we did and how we did it."
State reviews records to track stimulus money A federally funded home weatherization program based in Crookston has been on hold since November as Minnesota Commerce Department auditors investigate problems in tracking the money, including a large infusion last year of stimulus funding.
Critics of the home weatherization provision in the $790 billion economic stimulus program are not really balking over caulking: they just don’t think pouring substantially more money into this initiative will give a quick kick to the reeling economy.
