North Dakota's governor and congressional delegation say the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the city of Minot and Ward County more than $40 million in disaster relief funding.
Thousands are still living in FEMA trailers in Ward County after last summer’s Mouse River flood. There were once nearly 2,000 emergency trailers in the county for flood victims. There are now about 1,500.
Authorities have released the name of a 19-year-old man killed when he was struck by a train while walking in Minot. Ward County Sheriff's officials say Anthony Ray Forsman of Minot was walking west on the tracks early Saturday morning when a Burlington Northern train approached from the east.
A man charged with attempted murder in a Minot shooting has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and been sentenced. 22-year-old Jade Kaisler was sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated assault. He also pleaded guilty to criminal mischief for damaging a window at the Ward County Jail.
Minot's air travel numbers have been rising since 2009, in large part due to the oil boom in western North Dakota. Boardings in Minot in January increased 63 percent over the year, and in February they were up 85 percent.
