The high school had a teachable moment, but instead of letting student-athletes know that they will be held accountable, the school taught them that for some people, the punishment does not fit the crime.
Players will miss time in first round of East Region tournament Two Grand Forks Red River boys basketball players will be punished for their roles in damaging a locker room in Wahpeton on Tuesday night, school principal Kris Arason said today.
A Wahpeton man who faces decades in prison for possessing and receiving child pornography has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court. Prosecutors charged Benjamin Joseph Hager, 37, with sexually exploiting children in a case that connects him with a Detroit-area man who used his four underage daughters to create and distribute sexually explicit images. Robert John Mueller was sentenced in September in Eastern Michigan’s U.S. District Court to serve 45 years in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
Wahpeton, N.D., police say a 26-year-old woman is hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times this morning and her alleged attacker is in custody.
A witness reported the stabbing at 2:58 a.m. in front of Community Homes in the 1600 block of Eighth Street North, where both the suspect and victim live, Sgt. Dan Nordick said. Police arrived and found the woman lying in the street with multiple stab wounds, he said. She was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., and later airlifted to a Fargo hospital. Her condition wasn’t available.
An 18-year-old driver was hospitalized after a rollover-type accident Thursday on a Richland County, N.D., road. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says Kyle Green of Wahpeton was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan northbound on County Road 15 about a quarter-mile south of Highway 13 when he lost control of the van. The van entered the east ditch and rolled several times. Green wasn’t wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Commissioners representing southeastern North Dakota's Richland and Wilkin counties, home to Wahpeton-Breckenridge, recently passed separate resolutions opposing the Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project. “Quite frankly we haven’t been invited to the table,” Jason Heitkamp, a Richland County commissioner, said this week. “There’s just no information on it to make a decision.”
