UND volleyball coach Ashley Hardee submitted his resignation on Wednesday, according to a release from the school. The resignation comes as Hardee is being investigated for a reported hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning while the team was in Portland, Ore., at the Big Sky tournament.
Ashley Hardee, who coached UND’s volleyball team to a share of its first Big Sky championship this season, is on paid administrative leave after an incident at the Big Sky tournament this past weekend in Portland, Ore. UND athletic director Brian Faison said Monday the coach is the subject of an internal review.
UND’s NCAA tournament dream is over. Idaho State convincingly ended North Dakota’s season with a 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 25-12 victory in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament Friday night in Stott Arena on the campus of Portland State.
Grand Forks Red River coach Carolyn Olson spread it around on the final day of the Class A state tournament. The Roughriders played nearly everyone on the roster, succumbing to Fargo Davies 25-20, 25-20, 25-13 in the fifth-place match Saturday.
Thompson rallied to force a fifth set on Saturday, but ultimately lost the tiebreaker to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood. The Mavericks used a 9-0 run in the fifth set to help clinch a 22-25, 25-7, 25-19, 8-25, 15-9 win during the fifth-place match of the North Dakota Class B state volleyball tournament at the Minot State Dome.
Thompson bounced back quickly — literally — Friday. It took Thompson less than 45 minutes to sweep Grant County 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 in the consolation semifinals of the North Dakota Class B high school volleyball tournament.
One thing is certain for UND heading into Saturday’s Big Sky Conference volleyball match against Southern Utah. North Dakota already has earned a spot in the semifinal round of next week’s league postseason tournament in Portland.
The thought of making the Class A state championship game kept Addie Eamon and her Jamestown teammates awake the night before. “We were so excited. None of us could sleep,” said the 6-foot middle hitter. “We woke up and instantly it was like ‘Oh my gosh, we’re playing to go to the state championship.’”
UND wasted no time Thursday night in making sure it will have a chance to accomplish a program milestone in two days UND swept Northern Arizona 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center, a win that moves North Dakota to within one victory of clinching at least a share of the Big Sky Conference title.
Being the underdog didn’t make losing any easier for Taylor Adam and her teammates. Jamestown handed Grand Forks Red River a 3-0 defeat here Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class A high school volleyball tournament. Jamestown won 25-16, 25-15, 25-19.
