Another season, another milestone — that’s how things have evolved for Shelby Kaster. Last winter, Kaster scored the 1,000th point of her basketball career. This fall, she registered her 1,000th kill in volleyball.
Abbey Braaten has more than 1,000 kills in her Langdon High School volleyball career, and more than 500 this season. And that advantage showed Thursday as the Cardinals swept Minot Our Redeemer’s 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B state tournament.
The balance came back to back the Park River/Fordville-Lankin offense. The Aggies used a big match-ending attack Thursday to rally past Ray 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B high school volleyball tournament.
Some nerves showed at times, but the Grand Forks Red River volleyball team pulled through with a win on Thursday. Red River defeated Bismarck 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20 during the quarterfinals of the North Dakota state volleyball tournament.
Carly Myrdal was an all-district setter in 2010, leading Park River/Fordville-Lankin to a second straight berth in the North Dakota Class B high school volleyball tournament. When this season started, however, Myrdal had no qualms about switching from setter to libero for her senior season.
This will be the 10th state tournament appearance in the past 12 seasons for the Langdon Cardinals. It is only the second time in that span that Langdon has six players with more than 100 kills entering state.
