AUTO RACING: Dobmeier adapts to conditions, wins feature
A week ago, sprint cars staged one of the best races in recent years at River Cities Speedway. On Friday night, the opposite happened. “It was about 30 mph less out there and we were sliding around,” said Mark Dobmeier. Dobmeier adapted to the conditions as he won the 25-lap sprint feature, a race that was plagued by a number of caution flags.

PREP TRACK: Thompson wins 4x800 relay at Class B state meet
The Tommies won the 4x800 relay Friday on the opening day of the North Dakota Class B girls high school track meet. Thompson led from almost start to finish. Shimek ran a strong first leg to put the Tommies in the lead. Marx ran a strong anchor as the Tommies held off runner-up Kindred. Thompson finished with a time of 9 minutes, 57.41 seconds to Kindred’s 9:58.35.

PREP TRACK: Red River's Hoplin wins javelin at state meet
John Hoplin spent most of the spring chasing teammate Quinn Baumann. In the end, however, nobody else in the state could catch Hoplin. Hoplin, a junior at Grand Forks Red River, won the javelin here Friday in the opening day of the North Dakota Class A High School state track meet. Hoplin won with a throw of 191 feet, 10 inches.
