Dear Shirley, Just as I had decided December is fairly mild in North Dakota, a big blast of snow moved in this week. When I got home late Tuesday from my Thanksgiving visit to Pittsburgh, the snow was blowing sideways straight from the north.
UND volleyball coach Ashley Hardee submitted his resignation on Wednesday, according to a release from the school. The resignation comes as Hardee is being investigated for a reported hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning while the team was in Portland, Ore., at the Big Sky tournament.
UND faculty and staff got a preview Tuesday of an expanded and renovated law school. Architects and planners of the $11.4 million project were on hand at the UND Memorial Union to present conceptual designs and floor plans at the start of a three-day visit to campus.
Joseph Morsette was sworn in Monday as chief judge for the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe near Devils Lake. Morsette, 46, just left his job Friday at UND directing the Native Americans Into Law program, recruiting Indian students to the state’s only law school.
The UND School of Law will hold a community meeting to discuss the upcoming renovation and expansion of its building from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Memorial Union Lecture Bowl on campus, the university said.

UND’s NCAA tournament dream is over. Idaho State convincingly ended North Dakota’s season with a 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 25-12 victory in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament Friday night in Stott Arena on the campus of Portland State.
In some international flair at Ralph Engelstad Arena on Friday, UND and the national women’s team from Russia skated to a 3-3 tie. UND, however, won the shootout 1-0 on a goal from Halli Krzyzaniak. It was a five-round, international-style shootout.
Through three games, it looked as if UND wouldn’t have trouble scoring this season. UND had big-time trouble Friday as Cal Poly routed North Dakota 70-43 in the opening round of the Global Sports Harwood Challenge at the University of Oregon.
UND senior Ronni Munkeby was named to the all-Big Sky Conference first team while Anna Pioske took home co-Freshman of the Year honors to highlight a group of four North Dakota players who received league postseason honors Thursday.
