Travis Zajac, who played at UND from 2004-06, was signed to an eight-year, $46 million contract with the Devils on Wednesday, ending any chance that New Jersey would lose its No. 1 center after this season.

Ex-UND star Travis Zajac is making a huge impact for the Cup-bound New Jersey Devils. Zajac, who played at UND from 2004-06, is one of the main reasons why the New Jersey Devils are in the Stanley Cup finals, which begin Wednesday.
Travis Zajac blossomed into a top-flight NHL forward this past season and it soon could pay dividends. The former UND standout forward is one of the more intriguing restricted free agents who will hit the market today when the NHL’s free agency period opens.
Former UND standout and New Jersey Devils forward Travis Zajac has been added to Canada’s roster for the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, which is currently taking place in Switzerland.
They may be young, but former UND linemates Jonathan Toews and T.J. Oshie have been key cogs in turning around the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues this season. Both will suit up in the playoffs, which begin tonight.
