Tveit, 38, was crossing the railroad tracks in downtown Northwood, N.D., in his mid-90s sedan when a northbound freight train hit his passenger side.
A Thief River Falls man was killed early Saturday morning, hit by a train on the south side of the city. Jacob Haugen, 21, was seen lying on the tracks, not apparently awake or conscious, by a Canadian Pacific Railway engineer who was not able to stop in time, a police spokeswoman said. The CP freight train’s conductor called police to report the accident.
Sgt. Aaron Hummel of the North Dakota Highway Patrol said Darvin Friederich, 63, was driving a 2000 Chevy Suburban north on a gravel road about 1:35 p.m. Sunday about ¼ mile east of Larimore when he crossed the railroad tracks, intending to turn on Grand Forks County Road 4 on the north side of the tracks, where the gravel road ends.
