Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Thursday ruled out a run for political office in Minnesota in 2014, leaving Republicans without a top prospect in what are expected to be competitive races for U.S. Senate and governor.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who many said was the likely Republican vice presidential candidate, told reporters he is not disappointed because he did not get involved in the Romney campaign to be a running mate.
Tim Pawlenty could get his wish to join a national ticket in the next few days. Although Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says he has not decided on a running mate, outside speculation puts the former Minnesota governor at the top of the list.
More and more discussion centers on Tim Pawlenty becoming Mitt Romney’s running mate, but at the same time, Ron Paul supporters are considering derailing traditional Republicans like the former Minnesota governor.
Pawlenty gradually has changed his tune about whether he is interested in running for vice president.
Former presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty said Monday he wants off speculators' lists of potential running mates for presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney. He's not even sure a Cabinet post sounds all that appealing.
Michele Bachmann spent the summer and fall in Iowa, hoping to gain traction as a presidential candidate. Sure, she said, being from a family that had been in Iowa seven generations makes her proud of the Hawkeye State. But she said she also is proud of Minnesota.
