By completing a late rally in regulation, Hillsboro/Central Valley looked like it would have a leg up in overtime. The momentum, though, never showed up in the extra session. The Tommies knocked off Hillsboro/Central Valley 58-50 on Thursday night.
The Tommies’ girls basketball team enters the week with a 15-2 record and facing a North Dakota District 3 showdown. Thompson hosts Hillsboro-Central Valley (14-3) on Tuesday with the top seed in the district tournament on the line.
As a senior at Thompson High School in 2004, Bethany Gensrich was named co-winner of the North Dakota Miss Softball award, which goes to the state’s top high school senior player.

A farmer’s discovery of a pipe bomb Monday about 7 miles southeast of Grand Forks led officials to deploy a robot and a technician to defuse the device. Authorities received a report shortly before noon of a suspicious object on a gravel road about a mile west of Walle Lutheran Church. Lt. Tracy Meidinger said the regional bomb squad went to the scene and found a 5-inch metal pipe bomb. He said the bomb was not an immediate threat to anyone in the area.
