Pilot Ken Asp and his daughter, Mallory, were checking field conditions in their Cessna plane about 11 miles west of Thief River Falls at about 11 a.m. Thursday when the plane hit a power line and flipped, crashing into a farm field.
A Thief River Falls man pleaded guilty Thursday to giving heroin last summer to a man who then overdosed in a Grand Forks motel room. Thomas Alan Olson, 24, admitted dealing cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine July 10 with Rodrigo Almendarez, his longtime friend from Thief River Falls.
About 35 Thief River Falls students participate in a co-ed trapshooting program offered through the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League. This is the first year the young Thief River Falls shooters have participated in the league, and organizers say interest has far exceeded their expectations.
Considering the exclusive group he will be joining, Mark Larson characterizes his impending induction into the IDEA Hall of Fame as “humbling.” The president and chief operating officer of Thief River Falls-based Digi-Key will be inducted on April 24 into the hall, which honors entrepreneurs in northwestern Minnesota. He will be joined by Ron Stordahl, the company’s founder and CEO.
The northwestern Minnesota towns of Thief River Falls and Fertile received exposure Tuesday on Today, the daily morning television show on NBC. Correspondent Sara Haines visited the region Feb. 15 for the story segment that centered on snowmobiling.
Brittany Haviland, a 2003 graduate of Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, returned to her hometown Friday with a Today Show crew in tow. An associate producer for the NBC daily morning show, she was in charge of shooting a segment that tentatively is scheduled to air March 5.
