Feeling the pinch of the sluggish economic recovery, many Americans setting out on the nation's annual Thanksgiving migration sacrificed summer vacations, relied on relatives for airfare or scoured the Web for travel deals to ensure they made it home.
The only way store employees, associates, team members or whatever else retailers are calling them can be at home with their families on Thanksgiving and any other holiday is when management unlocks the front door at, say, 3 a.m. — and there are no customers standing in line.
Northlands Rescue Mission will provide a turkey dinner for program participants, shelter guests and members of the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 319 S. Fifth St., Grand Forks.
One man's Elf on the Shelf is another's Kermit the Frog, but at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, there is room for both. The parade has to be a multigenerational crowd-pleaser for the more than 3 million people who typically attend the event and the TV audience of 50 million.
