Teen pregnancy is an issue of ongoing concern. Some 31 out of every 1,000 Americans ages 15-19 gave birth in 2011, the Centers for Disease Control reports. The good news is that this rate is beginning to decline; it’s down about 10 percent from 2010.
North Dakota stayed about the same and Minnesota saw a significant decline in the teen birth rate, according to a new government report that also noted a significant decline nationwide. Out of 1,000 girls aged 15 to 19 in North Dakota, 28.8 gave birth in 2010, which is statistically the same as in 2007, the timeframe of the report. For the same age group in Minnesota, 22.5 girls gave birth in 2010, which was a decline of 19 percent. Compare those figures to the national rate of 34.3, which was a decline of 17 percent.
