Devils Lake gets a safeguard against overflowing water 
The 800-foot-structure, built between Stump Lake and a natural rise in the Tolna Coulee, is designed to prevent a catastrophic spill from the Devils Lake Basin to the Sheyenne River Valley. The unique design mimics the natural erosion that likely would occur in the coulee, while restricting downstream flows.

Crews testing whether site is right for Stump Lake outlet

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assured Gov. Jack Dalrymple and city officials Tuesday in Devils Lake that embankments protecting the city from rising lake waters are high enough and strong enough to withstand a lake elevation rise to a record 1,455 or 1,456 feet above sea level this year.

More sulfates from Devils Lake water could force new Fargo treatment plant
Increasing the discharge of water from Devils Lake into the Sheyenne River could raise sulfate levels high enough that Fargo might eventually need to install $45 million in water treatment equipment, city officials said this week. Sulfates are a natural laxative and can cause diarrhea in people not used to high levels in their water, officials said.
