The North Dakota state high school tournament starts today in Ralph Engelstad Arena, and I don't remember a tournament that has been more up-for-grabs as this one.

FARGO — Sheridon Dewald was at her best when it mattered most Thursday at the Fargodome.
The Napoleon senior scored nine points in the final seven minutes and finished with 17. Her effort helped the Imperials earn a 61-55 victory against Beach in the first round of the North Dakota Class B state girls basketball tournament.
FARGO — Bethany Ivesdal stole the show. Literally.
The junior’s free throw with 1 minute and 27 seconds remaining gave Thompson its first lead. Then Ivesdal twice stole passes in the final 46 seconds, helping the Tommies preserve a 58-52 win against New Town on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota state Class B girls high school basketball tournament.
The offense starts with Ellie Ripplinger. All the senior has done this season is lead the Eastern Dakota Conference in scoring, score her 1,000th career point and become Grand Forks Red River’s career scoring leader.
ST. PAUL -- Jack Kolar's goal early in the second period stood as the
game winner as Duluth East held off Moorhead 1-0 in the Minnesota
Class AA state boys hockey tournament quarterfinals on Thursday at the
Xcel Energy Center.
In a mismatch of experience, East Grand Forks Senior High was making its first Minnesota state boys hockey tournament appearance since 2002, while Rochester Lourdes was playing in its fifth consecutive state tournament. The Green Wave, though, proved to belong at the Minnesota prep sports’ signature event.
The third time was the charm for Grand Forks Central senior Bryce Fish in more ways than one on Saturday. Fish topped previously undefeated Zane Braun of Jamestown with a 4-2 decision in the 152-pound championship match during the North Dakota Class A individual wrestling tournament at the Fargodome.
ictoria Petriella’s words of wisdom left a lasting impression on her grandson. “My grandmother told me that if you put forth the effort, good things will happen,” Grand Forks Red River High School senior Rodell Johnson said. “That was one of her speeches. She told me that one a lot.”
