The Rainy River as of Thursday morning was open about five miles downstream from the Frontier Landing, which is located along state Highway 11 about 18 miles east of Baudette, Minn., according to Sportsman’s Lodge.

CO Ben Huener (Roseau) worked anglers on Lake of the Woods from the south shore to the Northwest Angle with COs Birchem, Znajda, Gorecki and Sherack. Violations encountered included angling with extra lines, angling with unattended lines, possession of marijuana, angling without a license in possession, and possession of unmeasurable walleyes.
Most anglers are fishing in 30 to 34 feet of water on the south end of the lake and catching a mixture of walleyes and saugers. Fishing has been spotty during the recent cold front; some walleyes are suspended, and anglers are catching more saugers than walleyes.
