Smiley's demolition delayed until at least next week 
The threat of high winds later this week has delayed the planned demolition of the Smiley water tower near the intersection of South Washington Street and DeMers Avenue in Grand Forks, according to the Grand Forks Public Information Office.

Smiley could be down by end of the week 
Demolition work on the Smiley water tower, near the corner of DeMers Avenue and Washington Street, is scheduled to begin Thursday morning. The tower could be completely removed by Friday evening, weather permitting.

After years of discussion, GF's Smiley water tower will come down this week 
It’s probably the most recognizable of Grand Forks’ water towers — and certainly the most contentious in recent years — but if the weather cooperates, Smiley will meet his demise beginning Thursday morning. Public Works director Todd Feland said the question of what to do with Smiley has been around since the nearby Purpur water tower came online in 2000.
