Commercial fisherman Larry Barbeau's comings and goings usually don't create much of a stir in this wind-swept Lake Michigan outpost, but in the past few days, his phone jangles the minute he arrives home.

Rescuers scoured the wide waters of a Volga River reservoir on Monday, searching with dimming hopes for survivors after an aged, overloaded cruise ship sank amid wind and rain. Forty-one people were confirmed dead, but more than 80 remained missing.
A great wooden steamship that sank more than a century ago in a violent Lake Michigan storm has been found off the Milwaukee-area shoreline, and divers say the intact vessel appears to have been perfectly preserved by the cold fresh waters.
Odyssey Marine Exploration is still looking for the 100,000 gold coins believed to be aboard the HMS Victory when it sank in the English Channel in 1744. The Florida-based company found the shipwreck in May and has recovered cannons and other artifacts.
