Gov. Tim Pawlenty has vetoed an anti-bullying bill, saying the current law is already sufficient to deal with schoolyard harassment. The bill would have created 14 categories protected from bullying, including sexual orientation, national origin and disability. Pawlenty said Saturday bullying is a serious issue that must be vigilantly monitored, but the proposed bill duplicated a law that already prohibits bullying.
The economic crisis means Minnesota must help citizens facing job losses, struggling to find work or who risk losing their home, Democratic legislators said.
